Naturopathic Visits – What to Expect:
Naturopathic medicine is an integrative approach to health care and disease management. The general goal is for us to develop a deeper understanding of your health concerns and to provide you with an individualized treatment plan that aims to optimize your health by addressing the underlying causes for your symptoms. Attention will be placed on functional disharmony, as well as mental and emotional influences that may be contributing to your health concerns.
Your first visit will consist of a thorough intake and health history. During this visit your naturopathic doctor will spend time getting to know & understanding your health concerns, and assessing your general well-being.
In the second visit the focus is generally on developing a more comprehensive understanding of your diet and lifestyle – This visit may involve a physical exam, Chinese tongue & pulse diagnosis, urinalysis, and recommendations for further testing – these may include blood work, salivary hormone testing, hair analysis, and/or stool analysis.
Your treatments may involve one or more of the several modalities available to naturopathic doctors and generally consist of a combination of Dietary & Lifestyle recommendations, Herbal and Homeopathic preparations, professional grade Natural Supplements & Nutrients, as well as Physical Medicine, Acupuncture, and Health Education.
Acupuncture Visits – What to Expect:
After an initial health inquiry and a Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment, which includes tongue and pulse assessment, you can expect to receive a 30-45 minute acupuncture and/or bodywork treatment.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-fine needles into specific points on the body. The needles are sterile, single-use, and disposable. As they are extremely thin, many people do not even notice as needles are inserted. However there may be a slight pinching sensation.
During an acupuncture session, different sensations are common, such as: heaviness, numbness, tingling, pressure, and electric pulsations. Once the body becomes accustomed to the needles, acupuncture can be a very relaxing experience.
Acupuncture encourages subtle and often profound changes to one’s physical, emotional and spiritual being. Weekly sessions are encouraged for anywhere between a 3-12 week period, depending on your condition, and your rate of progress. Acupuncture treatments can be received before, during, or after a regular working day, and do not produce side effects that would interfere with your daily routine.
